Revalidation is the process currently being introduced by which doctors will have to demonstrate to the General Medical Council that they are up to date, fit to practise and complying with the relevant professional standards. The GMC has overall responsibility for Revalidation.
Doctors will need to demonstrate that they are practising according to the guidance set out in Good Medical Practice (GMP), as translated into the GMC’s revised framework (for appraisal and assessment) and also with the specialty standards defined by their Royal Medical College or Faculty.
Revalidation is driven and achieved by a process of strengthened appraisal for doctors, on an annual basis.
